Sustainable Resource Management Programme:
Impact Monitoring of Sustainable Management of Tropical Forests in Cameroon
The Sustainable Resource Management Programme is financed by the GTZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit) and supports Cameroon's National Forest Programme (PSFE) implementation with four components:
1. Policy advice and sector reform;
2. Socially acceptable conservation of biodiversity;
3. Adding value through sustainable utilisation of the natural resources;
4. Impact monitoring of sustainable management of tropical forests.
Objective of the impact monitoring component was to desing and develop a remote sensing based monitoring system to efficiently control logging operation and illegal deforestation processes in support of sustainable management of the tropical rainforest in Cameroon. In a consortium with AFC Consultants International RSS was responsible for the design and establishment of the satallite based monitoring system and the link to the based GIS information management system.
